Yowza Siesta Folding Treadmill Review
Released in 2010, the Yowza Siesta has been re-vamped for 2011 as a very high-value, feature-rich folding treadmill from Yowza Fitness. Several things stand out on this folding treadmill that make it a best buy for a treadmill under $1,000.

Under $1,000, you will be very hard-pressed to find another folding treadmill that delivers the value of the Yowza Fitness Siesta.
A key feature: the patented Swing Arm shock absorbtion. This, combined with the floating deck design seen on their other treadmills – Yowza Daytona and Yowza Smyrna – ensures a lower impact workout for the dedicated runner.
Yowza reserves their swing arm technology for their top-of-the-line model, the Yowza Daytona – to see this featured on their entry level, folding treadmill is an incredible deal for the price (in our opinion: the combination of the floating deck and the swing arm is a firm but soft landing).
The benefit of the shock-absorbing “1, 2 punch” is a lower likelihood of repetitive stress injuries (RSI) such as Runner’s Knee and the like. The joint strain placed on the knees, back, hips and ankles is dramatically lowered compared to other treadmills without this patented technology.
For that reason, we’re amazed at the price point and what we perceive as an extreme value for this low price point. Here are some key features and benefits of the Yowza Siesta.

Yowza Siesta Folding Treadmill is a Best Value
For less than $1,000, we wouldn’t expect to find one of the best warranties at this price range, nor one of the best suspension systems to fight against joint pain. The double-feature of the floating deck coupled with the patented swing-arm shock absorber (like a motorcycle’s) amouints to a high value.
We can’t decide if those features or the warranty backing the treadmill are our favorite facets of the Siesta, but altogether this package just works.
Yowza Fitness Siesta Offers the Exclusive Swing Arm
This is not your ordinary suspension. It is not available anywhere else, and looking around at comparable treadmills at this price range, we were happy to find this technology on a folding treadmill.
What does this suspension do?
In a word, the swing arm suspension will absorb the shock of the runner’s footfalls like a shock absorber would on a car or motorcycle. As we mentioned in our Daytona review (the top model for Yowza’s treadmill line), the effect is a softer run with less stress placed on the joints.
For runners, this means that if back or knee pain is prevalent, the shock-absorbing features on Siesta will help to minimize damage to the joints.
The jarring, high impact workout of running will be minimized, and especially working in conjunction with the floating deck.
Here is a video of the Yowza Siesta floating deck in action:
Yowza Fitness is no stranger to packing a lot of value at factory-direct prices, and the Siesta treadmill is proof of that concept. Since the company only sells factory-direct as a strategy to compete in a crowded market, the customer is the clear winner.

Yowza Siesta Customer Reviews
It’s fine and good to read my editorial opinion of the value that this treadmill represents, but what did actual customers say about their experiences? Since this treadmill has not been on the market long, there are few customer reviews.

Main Benefits of the Siesta Folding Treadmill
Since the Yowza Siesta is a folding treadmill, the clear and obvious advantage is the space savings it presents. If you live in a condo, for example, the ability to fold and put away your home treadmill offers a clear space-savings benefit.
Most who are looking at a folding treadmill either want the lower cost or the space savings – in both cases the Yowza Fitness Siesta delivers.
Here are the other benefits, besides the high value and low cost.
2.5 Quiet-running CHP Motor
Focus on your workout, not a noisy motor that struggles to keep up. Meant for contiuous duty, the 2.5 continuous horsepower motor is strong enough for most runners.

The big benefit is knowing that it’s fully covered by a lifetime warranty should anything happen to it, so either way this is never going to be a concern for the Siesta owner – it’s a low-maintenance model that powers the most rigorous runs.
Double Suspension System
The Yowza Daytona is the flagship model treadmill for Yowza Fitness, offering a double suspension system: floating deck on multi-durometer, graduated elastomer rings, in addition to the exclusive “Swing Arm” technology only Yowza can offer.
For about $1,000 less, you can get this same flagship suspension on Yowza’s Siesta model. This is a high value at an entry-level price, and it’ s one of the main reasons we rate this treadmill so highly.

The floating deck offers cushioning where it matters most: where the foot strikes down in a stride. In the area where the runner is pushing off, the deck offers the most support, since the elastomer (hard rubber) rings get progressively firmer towards the rear.
The benefit is a dramatic reduction in impact and damage to your knees, back and ankles, since the swing arm and floating deck work together to multiply the cushioning effect on your body.
Overall, this reduces the long-term damage normally caused by an active lifestyle involving high-impact exercise, like running (something even young runners need to consider: the body will eventually begin to break down in highly-worn areas such as the joints).
12 Incline Levels, up to 10 MPH Speeds & 7 Intensities
Though priced as the entry-level model, the Siesta’s 12 degrees of incline and up to 10 MPH speeds will satisfy all but the most hardened athlete.
Siesta comes with a number of programs to workout to, the 7 levels of intensity allow for the treadmill to remain challenging even after years of use.
Quality Running Belt and Deck
The 20″ X 55″ belt is perfect for all but the very tallest of runners, and has various layers to reduce friction and motor wear. The belt will offer years of service and is also covered under a strong warranty.
The deck is an inch thick, which is also a feature of treadmills 5 times the price. The material is triple-laminated phelonic, which is an industrial material that can withstand plenty of abuse.
It’s reversible and wax-impregnated to reduce friction, so it’s very low maintenance (no regular maintenance is required).
Gas-Assisted Folding Mechanism
This feature allows any user to simply unfold the Siesta with a push of a button, as shown in the pictures below and the video above.
This is a safety feature and ensures that anyone can begin using the treadmill without fear of a potential injury in the setup process.

Quality Crowned Rollers, Sealed Bearings
One of the common problems of poor treadmill engineering is what is called “belt tracking.” On traditional rollers, there is litte stopping the belt from actually coming off-track, requiring maintenance.
With the Yowza Siesta, the rollers are a superior design: they’re crowned, which helps keep the belt properly aligned. The sealed bearings are another mark of quality which carries the benefit of no maintenance issues.
Bonus Features
Those are the main features of the treadmill, but there are also bonus features that Yowza Siesta offers:
- Superior Double-Layered Shock Absorption
- Cup Holder
- iPod Docking Station (Use Most Any MP3)
- Hi-Fidelity Speakers
- Heart Rate Receiver
- Wireless Polar Chest Belt
- Grip Pulse Handles
Warranty Information
One of the signs of quality on an investment in your home treadmill is to look at the warranty. Essentially it’s an indicator of how well the product should be expected to hold up, and if the manufacturer doesn’t have high hopes, then nor should you.
You’re in good hands with Yowza Fitness treadmills, however – they have a fantastic warranty on all their products.

You have the assurance of a strong warranty and a rising force in the fitness industry – Yowza stands behind their treadmills and more importantly, they stand behind their customers.
Yowza Siesta Workout Programs
This folding treadmill may be the “entry-level” edition of Yowza Fitness treadmills, but it’s far from lacking in features such as workout programs. Compared to others in the same pricing category, this treadmill delivers on a variety of quality concerns – outlined below.

9 User Profiles
Equipped with 9 user’s profiles, you can store the data of sex, age and weight to keep track of your progress or 8 other people. This is not something we’d expect in this price-range, in our opinion Yowza Fitness over-delivers to do so.
12 Programs, 7 Intensities
Because of the need to introduce muscle confusion, or to keep raising the bar when working out – Yowza’s Siesta comes with 12 workout programs and 7 intensity levels. This should satisfy the needs of most runners – if not, the 12 degrees of incline is a great added value to reduce shin splints and increase the cardiovascular workout potential.
There is enough power in the motor and enough diversity of workouts with the Siesta that fat burning and weight loss are not going to be a problem here.
Programs include the following:
- 3 “Target” Workouts: Target Time, Target Distance and Target Calories
- 4 Preset Workouts With 7 Intensity Levels
- 3 Speed Interval Workouts, 7 Intensity Levels
- Weight Loss Workout Program Auto-Adjusts Incline and Speed, 7 Intensity Levels
- Heart Rate Control (HRC) Workout Program Uses the Included Polar Heart Rate Transmitter to Maintain Workout Intensity Based on Bio-Feedback
Final Word on Yowza Siesta
We give this a full -stars. The first reason is that this is a high-value proposition for most runners, even though the weight capacity is “only” 300 pounds and the belt is “only” 55″ long.
Unless you require more support or stride length (most people will do just fine), the fact that this treadmill folds away easily and offers the company’s top-shelf, patented suspension system coupled with their floating deck design presents an extremely lucrative folding treadmill.
The value is high, and the company stands behind their warranty. The beauty of a company in the position of Yowza Fitness is that they fight for customers by offering astounding customer service.
If you search for more value at this price range (under $1k), you’d have a difficult time finding it.
There are some great models at Smooth and Sole Fitness for this price range, but the Yowza Siesta has them all out-classed in our opinion with enough features (and warranty coverage) that we consider this the best treadmill under $1,000.
